HISTORY

A Little History:
Our story begins in Pocatello, Idaho, circa 1972, when the lovely Debby Christensen agreed to a first, though fateful date with admirer, David Croshaw. Long story-short, he bade her follow him, and they went arm-in-arm to the Logan, Utah temple for establishment of an eternal family unit, Generation 1, on May 23 1973.

From their first blissful summer in Salt Lake City, educational pursuits took them to Provo/Orem, Utah, birthplace of Leslie and Rebecca, and to San Francisco/Oakland California, birthplace of Colin and Matt. Then, for establishment of livelihood, expansion of the tribe with Abby and Dana, and for raising/unifying of Generation 2, it was back to the roots in Pocatello for a rewarding sojourn.

In time, driven by a raging, but commonly shared sense of adventure and independence, one-by-one, Generation 2 escaped the homeland to distant regions of the country and the world, each ultimately developing their own tribal expansions by pairing with worthy mates and initiating Generation 3.

Now sensing fulfillment of their purpose in Pocatello, Generation 1 has also left those roots and transplanted to Cascade Idaho, from which base, they anticipate more abundant contact with The Posterity, Generations 2 and 3, in the future. That contact however, awaits fulfillment of a call to LDS missionary service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, wherein they hope to help the state of the world by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

So now, including Generation 0 (Grandma and Grandpa Christensen) home base includes Yuma, Arizona, Pocatello, Idaho, Cascade, Idaho, Vancouver, BC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Spokane, Washington, Boise, Idaho, Los Angeles, California, back to Boise, Idaho, and on and on (Generation 3+) to infinity.

Our Mission Statement:
This is the blog of our eternal family unit. Initiated years ago, it served well as a journal, but even more so, as an archive of our personal interaction. It was a gathering place, a confabulation instrument, a unifying force for four generations of widely dispersed and progressively prolific posterity, and their valued associates. Though it served these purposes well for many years, it eventually took a back seat to new-kids-on-the-block, Facebook, and Instagram, and was sadly forgotten.

We now move to resurrect this blog with an added functional purpose of archiving the missionary experiences of Generation 1, of their movements and activities as they participate with The Gathering of Israel in the land northward. In so doing, we hope that via their own comments and posts, this blog will again serve to gather and unify the posterity and their friends.

As in the past, that the young and vibrant may know the old and tired, that enduring bonds may be fostered and maintained, that experience and encouragement may be openly shared, that posterity may embrace truth, and that hearts may be knit together, we must resist detachment despite our geographic divergence. We shall do so here.

Video-Conferencing

I have this idea that sometime on Thanksgiving, we should try to do a video chat. I know for us (amazing) Mac users, iChat will allow 3 conversations at once, so if we did it right, all the siblings/families could get on at one time for a little "thankful" talk. I imagine lots of interruptions, strange silences, etc., but it could really be fun if we combine video chat + typing ;-)

Just a thought... waddaya think?~

PS- what is everyone doing? We are currently plan-free and I have the entire week off! (During which, I am sure, I will be grading).

Oh great! Now I'm going to have to comb my hair and shave. Oh well, you're all worth it.

We don't have a web cam, so I guess we can't.
We're here in Cleveland for the holidays. We actually have friends coming here this year.

I'm voting for it! It's made such a difference in my family. Plus, you can use mebeam.com to get all the video feeds you need. We have had I think up to 5 or 6 at one time with feeds from all over. (that way you don't have to worry about the limit on users at once. It's kind of funny because you feel like you're actually talking to the other people. Oh, and the kids would LOVE it! Who doesn't like to be on TV at that age?

Colin and Lori, I have a webcam that I don't need because my lappy has a built-in camera. I could mail it to you??

I have an extra as well. It is an iSight, so we would need to make sure it works with PC. But it is up for grabs!

I have been checking and my iSight camera will not work on a PC unless you have special FireJuice cables... which I do not. It is still up for grabs if needed, however, for a Mac (but all the new ones have built-in cameras) or if you have FireJuice, you can have iSight too.

I think we will just stick around here because a long, long drive does not do much to conduce happy feelings in any of us ;-) besides, my car is broken. It will still be lovely, however. I am already looking forward to wild rice and corn casserole. Did you know that pumpkin puree is in very short supply? If you like pumpkin pie, you might go ahead and buy the pumpkin if you see it. All my store had is pumpkin pie mix... which is not what I needed for pumpkin bread... sadness...

Crystal, can you email me your pumpkin bread recipe? I notice pumpkin was in short supply when I bought some the other day to go in my pumpkin cookie recipe but they ha it. That is sad they didn't have what you needed. I want to make pumpkin bread for Jack's class party on Thursday but I don't have a recipe I know is good. If you make it however, I know the recipe must be good. You have sweet baking skills!

Sounds good, but when it is my turn to recite what I am thankful for, our sound connection will mysteriously cut out.
Speaking of sound, do you have to have a microphone or do you do the talking part over the phone?

It's over the computer, so you have to have a microphone. A lot of computers have one built in nowadays...

Target has web cams on clearance for ten dollars. I saw them today. Most computers have built in microphones and Macs have web cams. This will be super-fun!
