HISTORY

A Little History:
Our story begins in Pocatello, Idaho, circa 1972, when the lovely Debby Christensen agreed to a first, though fateful date with admirer, David Croshaw. Long story-short, he bade her follow him, and they went arm-in-arm to the Logan, Utah temple for establishment of an eternal family unit, Generation 1, on May 23 1973.

From their first blissful summer in Salt Lake City, educational pursuits took them to Provo/Orem, Utah, birthplace of Leslie and Rebecca, and to San Francisco/Oakland California, birthplace of Colin and Matt. Then, for establishment of livelihood, expansion of the tribe with Abby and Dana, and for raising/unifying of Generation 2, it was back to the roots in Pocatello for a rewarding sojourn.

In time, driven by a raging, but commonly shared sense of adventure and independence, one-by-one, Generation 2 escaped the homeland to distant regions of the country and the world, each ultimately developing their own tribal expansions by pairing with worthy mates and initiating Generation 3.

Now sensing fulfillment of their purpose in Pocatello, Generation 1 has also left those roots and transplanted to Cascade Idaho, from which base, they anticipate more abundant contact with The Posterity, Generations 2 and 3, in the future. That contact however, awaits fulfillment of a call to LDS missionary service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, wherein they hope to help the state of the world by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

So now, including Generation 0 (Grandma and Grandpa Christensen) home base includes Yuma, Arizona, Pocatello, Idaho, Cascade, Idaho, Vancouver, BC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Spokane, Washington, Boise, Idaho, Los Angeles, California, back to Boise, Idaho, and on and on (Generation 3+) to infinity.

Our Mission Statement:
This is the blog of our eternal family unit. Initiated years ago, it served well as a journal, but even more so, as an archive of our personal interaction. It was a gathering place, a confabulation instrument, a unifying force for four generations of widely dispersed and progressively prolific posterity, and their valued associates. Though it served these purposes well for many years, it eventually took a back seat to new-kids-on-the-block, Facebook, and Instagram, and was sadly forgotten.

We now move to resurrect this blog with an added functional purpose of archiving the missionary experiences of Generation 1, of their movements and activities as they participate with The Gathering of Israel in the land northward. In so doing, we hope that via their own comments and posts, this blog will again serve to gather and unify the posterity and their friends.

As in the past, that the young and vibrant may know the old and tired, that enduring bonds may be fostered and maintained, that experience and encouragement may be openly shared, that posterity may embrace truth, and that hearts may be knit together, we must resist detachment despite our geographic divergence. We shall do so here.

Good to be from the West

I came across a pretty interesting article today. It's about Utah's low unempolyment rate and some reasons why it is so low. Idaho isn't too far behind, probably for some of the same reasons.

I think it really says it is good to stay in the west too. We are really feeling the unemployment here. It is kind of scary when I really think about it. Last month, all the bishops in our stake met with 4 general authorities including Elder Quentin and Elder Packer. They were counseled the entire meeting to encourage and help every member to be self-sufficient and to get their food storage in order. How crazy is that?!

Anyway, I look forward to a booming economy again. The email I got this morning of all the stores closing after the crazy dream I had (ask if you would like) really started my day oddly, but I know in the end, we must be faithful and live it every day. I am getting much better at both and goodness knows I have had to be.

If I knew moving westward would help Matt have a good, secure job, we would be there in a second, so if you hear of anything concrete... we are pretty sick of never seeing each other and Asher is so distracted when both of us are actually home that he gets no sleep...

Let's all move west! At least then family reunions will be much easier and cheaper. Colin, when do you finish with your residency? 2011? That gives everyone enough time to plan. Let's make it a family goal! ;-)

I am done with residency June 30, 2011 and I hope to be moving July 1st. It's definitely back to Idaho for us. We just have to decide where. Hopefully we can all migrate back out West.
I heard today that the email about all the stores closing wasn't true.

About the time you guys all move back to the west, Mom and I will probably go on a mission and move out to where you are now. Crazy world. However, it would be such a dream-come-true to have all of you living closely enough that we could readily be involved in all the grandkids lives and activities - go to their games, performances, etc. And, there would be increased security in numbers. We could help one another much more easily.

Crystal, has Matt applied for any engineering jobs in the west? SLC or Boise? If he could get one out here (maybe a braoder market would help,) I would bet you could teach in just about any city that has a university.

Anyway, you all just keep up that mode of thinking, and we'll help get you here any way we can.

He hasn't applied for anything out there at all. I dunno... we feel pretty discouraged sometimes. Like right now. He actually had 2 interviews 2 weeks ago and one was for a low level tech position (still better than the sweat shop) and no offers... I do know that I can't do this by myself much longer. I am turning psycho from no sleep ever and the worst is going to work the next morning and having to appear chipper after not being able to grade or write a lecture or prepare for class and get no sleep. It has been pretty interesting, that is for sure. I am off this week, so it is now me being up all night, wanting to sleep the next day (and that is impossible to because Matt is sleeping) and not being able to get anything at all done and have no help. That really is the worst. I feel like a single parent and with a newborn, it is really hard! My mom is pretty much "done" with being here, so I don't have much help anymore. And I finally got to go to the bathroom at 9 after needing to go since 3 when Valerie held him for a few minutes. I have not had a shower since Saturday and it is now Tuesday. I just keep wondering... for how long is this going to go on? God knows what we have, and apparently I have done something terrible or need to learn more about the value of sleep or something, because I keep thinking it wont be much longer, and there is no indication that it is ever going to change. And poor Matt... his physical health is getting worse and worse from his job. It is terrible and he has absolutely no choice but to keep working there.

I dont know if the e-mail I forwarded is true, but I do know I heard on Fox News that Ann Taylor is closing over one hundred stores, Gap is closing 50 and so is Circuit City, so I am thinking there may be more truth to it than non-truth. You never know though, people like to make up things and waste time with that.

I'm hoping to get a job in the west once I graduate, so I'll probably be there before the end of 2010!

On with the Croshaw western exodus!
