HISTORY

A Little History:
Our story begins in Pocatello, Idaho, circa 1972, when the lovely Debby Christensen agreed to a first, though fateful date with admirer, David Croshaw. Long story-short, he bade her follow him, and they went arm-in-arm to the Logan, Utah temple for establishment of an eternal family unit, Generation 1, on May 23 1973.

From their first blissful summer in Salt Lake City, educational pursuits took them to Provo/Orem, Utah, birthplace of Leslie and Rebecca, and to San Francisco/Oakland California, birthplace of Colin and Matt. Then, for establishment of livelihood, expansion of the tribe with Abby and Dana, and for raising/unifying of Generation 2, it was back to the roots in Pocatello for a rewarding sojourn.

In time, driven by a raging, but commonly shared sense of adventure and independence, one-by-one, Generation 2 escaped the homeland to distant regions of the country and the world, each ultimately developing their own tribal expansions by pairing with worthy mates and initiating Generation 3.

Now sensing fulfillment of their purpose in Pocatello, Generation 1 has also left those roots and transplanted to Cascade Idaho, from which base, they anticipate more abundant contact with The Posterity, Generations 2 and 3, in the future. That contact however, awaits fulfillment of a call to LDS missionary service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, wherein they hope to help the state of the world by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

So now, including Generation 0 (Grandma and Grandpa Christensen) home base includes Yuma, Arizona, Pocatello, Idaho, Cascade, Idaho, Vancouver, BC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Spokane, Washington, Boise, Idaho, Los Angeles, California, back to Boise, Idaho, and on and on (Generation 3+) to infinity.

Our Mission Statement:
This is the blog of our eternal family unit. Initiated years ago, it served well as a journal, but even more so, as an archive of our personal interaction. It was a gathering place, a confabulation instrument, a unifying force for four generations of widely dispersed and progressively prolific posterity, and their valued associates. Though it served these purposes well for many years, it eventually took a back seat to new-kids-on-the-block, Facebook, and Instagram, and was sadly forgotten.

We now move to resurrect this blog with an added functional purpose of archiving the missionary experiences of Generation 1, of their movements and activities as they participate with The Gathering of Israel in the land northward. In so doing, we hope that via their own comments and posts, this blog will again serve to gather and unify the posterity and their friends.

As in the past, that the young and vibrant may know the old and tired, that enduring bonds may be fostered and maintained, that experience and encouragement may be openly shared, that posterity may embrace truth, and that hearts may be knit together, we must resist detachment despite our geographic divergence. We shall do so here.

Matt is 32

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT! Welcome to THIRTY-TWO years old!

We celebrate birthdays with a cake for breakfast and presents at the same time. Being Asher was up till 1 am, I had to find something to occupy my time, so getting birthday morning ready was my time occupant. I must say, a birthday on December 26, the day after Christmas is pretty exhausting.

Matt showed me this picture when we were dating and my first thought was: WOW, Matt. You look like your mom! Now I think Matt looks like all his siblings also very, very much. Same mouth and eyes and face. It is remarkable.

I love this picture too because Matt looks TERRIFIED of his cake and is just so darn cute. I love how happy Grandma looks- that has not changed one bit.

Matt is up for dressing in Gymboree any time and often is my favorite helper when I am trying to get a picture of Asher, who is ALWAYS in motion.

Matt is also not afraid to look silly ESPECIALLY if it is going to make Asher laugh

Matt is very handsome and luckily, passed a lot of that down to his son

Matt endures being beaten by a toddler very well

Matt is very snuggly

Matt is good company at the movies

Matt... looks like this dude...

Matt loves his son

Matt loves his wife and even will wear outfits that match his baby and brother-in-law and leave them looking like a happy family of alternative life-style

Matt loves Valerie and does not mind when she begs him to give her a pedicure because he is nice like that

Matt loves his family

Matt loves Jesus

Matt, I have often said- and still say- you are the best man I know. Your faith has never wavered, your love, never lapsed. Your allegiance to your God and your covenants inspires me to always want to be my best self. You are a good, kind, loving, feeling man and I am honored to be your wife. I hope that we make your birthday one that you feel loved and cared about during.

We love you~

ok, this is take two from mom. i misspelled a word that i had to change and i couldn't figure out how to change it, so i deleted it. i called a little while ago to tell you happy birthday. i'll keep trying. anyway, that cake looks so good. there is nothing like a great chocolate cake. i came to put something on the blog, (i know it is late, but i am in arizona) and i am glad crystal got here first. she so beautifully and perceptively described you, so i am so glad everyone gets to read this. you were and always have been a model son. thank you for that. you made mothering easy. i am so grateful for you. i hope you have a wonderful birhtday. i have been thinking of you and that day 32 years ago when the nurses brought you to me in a big red christmas sock. the best christmas present i ever got. have a great day. i love you. xoxoxoxoxo mom

All true. He-he-he's a good boy.

Matt, I sent you an email earlier about a story Grandma told us today, which embodies who you are. I'm going to elaborate on it here, so everyone else can enjoy it too:

It seems we were at the Grandma's cabin some time back, when you were a little boy at the impressionable age of 5-6 years old. All the kids were playing around the cabin while the adults visited over the kitchen table. Grandma related to us that she once saw her mean Grandma Cally, throw a fork at her sister, and stick it in her arm. We all winced, and then moved on to other conversation.

As was often the case, you were taking in more than we knew, and you later approached grandma to ask, "Grandma, how big was that fork?"

Putting her hands up, she indicated about 6 inches. You looked perplexed, but walked away, only to return a few minutes later to ask, "Grandma, how sharp was that fork?"

She explained that the tines were pointed. You went about your play, but returned numerous times over the course of that afternoon to ask more questions like, "Do they still make those forks?" Do you have any of those forks?" "How come she got so mad that she threw a fork at her sister?" etc...

Each time she answered your questions and you went on to further contemplate the grizzly scene. Finally, you came back and told her, "Grandma, I've decided when I get older, if I ever get really mad at someone, I'm going to throw cotton at them."

I hereby witness that to this day, I have never seen you throw a fork at anyone. You have remained a kind, gentle person with no guile, which is a very fine and admirable trait. We love you,
Dad

Dearest Matt,
And that is what you have always been to me "my dearest Matt". How lucky you and Crystal are to have each other and to have such a sweet family.
I have loved you for 32 years evem tho you ruined the eternities for me when you told me I wouldn't need to learn to speak fluent spanish. But I love you still. It has been wonderful having your mom and dad and Les and Elex here. Wish you all were here with us.

Happy birthday, my love.

Happy Birthday Matt! That cake does look seriously delicious. I'm guessing it's not from a box? I need to learn to bake better. I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Maybe someday we'll all be able to be together for your birthday again. It's a wish of mine.
It's such a nice post from Crystal, I love you Matt!

Brother!!

I was just thinking about you. Remember how you used to do my voicemail messages for me? So when people would call, they may or may not get an answer from Sean Connery, Saul Rosenberg, someone who was just "dee-lish-uss," or maybe even some dude with an extra-deep voice claiming to be me. That was awesome.

I'm jealous of that dee-lish-uss looking cake. I hope the rest of your birthday was equally fabulous. Love you!
