HISTORY

A Little History:
Our story begins in Pocatello, Idaho, circa 1972, when the lovely Debby Christensen agreed to a first, though fateful date with admirer, David Croshaw. Long story-short, he bade her follow him, and they went arm-in-arm to the Logan, Utah temple for establishment of an eternal family unit, Generation 1, on May 23 1973.

From their first blissful summer in Salt Lake City, educational pursuits took them to Provo/Orem, Utah, birthplace of Leslie and Rebecca, and to San Francisco/Oakland California, birthplace of Colin and Matt. Then, for establishment of livelihood, expansion of the tribe with Abby and Dana, and for raising/unifying of Generation 2, it was back to the roots in Pocatello for a rewarding sojourn.

In time, driven by a raging, but commonly shared sense of adventure and independence, one-by-one, Generation 2 escaped the homeland to distant regions of the country and the world, each ultimately developing their own tribal expansions by pairing with worthy mates and initiating Generation 3.

Now sensing fulfillment of their purpose in Pocatello, Generation 1 has also left those roots and transplanted to Cascade Idaho, from which base, they anticipate more abundant contact with The Posterity, Generations 2 and 3, in the future. That contact however, awaits fulfillment of a call to LDS missionary service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, wherein they hope to help the state of the world by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

So now, including Generation 0 (Grandma and Grandpa Christensen) home base includes Yuma, Arizona, Pocatello, Idaho, Cascade, Idaho, Vancouver, BC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Spokane, Washington, Boise, Idaho, Los Angeles, California, back to Boise, Idaho, and on and on (Generation 3+) to infinity.

Our Mission Statement:
This is the blog of our eternal family unit. Initiated years ago, it served well as a journal, but even more so, as an archive of our personal interaction. It was a gathering place, a confabulation instrument, a unifying force for four generations of widely dispersed and progressively prolific posterity, and their valued associates. Though it served these purposes well for many years, it eventually took a back seat to new-kids-on-the-block, Facebook, and Instagram, and was sadly forgotten.

We now move to resurrect this blog with an added functional purpose of archiving the missionary experiences of Generation 1, of their movements and activities as they participate with The Gathering of Israel in the land northward. In so doing, we hope that via their own comments and posts, this blog will again serve to gather and unify the posterity and their friends.

As in the past, that the young and vibrant may know the old and tired, that enduring bonds may be fostered and maintained, that experience and encouragement may be openly shared, that posterity may embrace truth, and that hearts may be knit together, we must resist detachment despite our geographic divergence. We shall do so here.

Extreme Makeover--Pocatello Edition

Hi everyone,
I finally downloaded some of my photos, so I will just let you take a little trip down 8th avenue.

Dad took this one photo which shows the helicopter (Utah Helicopter out at the airport, they had to raise their insurance to 5 million, the show paid for it. They have to pay for their own gas.   This is only a smattering of the details that I have learned, for instance, the concrete gets to 160 degrees.  They add the accelerant a block before they get to Jane's.  6000 square feet.  Only finsihing one bedroom in the basement, they should be back Tuesday and they will do 'move the bus'.  I'll stop.)  You can also go to channel 8 and see more photos.  An especially awful one of me, Jude and Linda.  love you all.  xoxo mom

That house is GIANORMOUS! Is it only 6000 sq ft finished? Or is that with the unfinished basement? It's going to be beautiful! I'm a fan on Facebook, or I "liked" it, and they have some more recent pictures of the house. It's crazy how fast it's going.

I can't wait to see the finished product!!

It literally is almost finished. Six days to build a 6000 square foot home, all done by the community. The show producers simply get the process started, but do none of the work and all the materials and labor are donated by the community. It has been very inspiring to see everyone take it on and work so tirelessly to make it happen. It has been perpetual motion (24-7) since last Thursday.

That actually makes me feel better about the show. Knowing that it is the community coming together to take care of one of it's own, and that the community donates all the time and materials. That's awesome.

I don't think the show producers tell it that way, or want that story out. You get the impression from watching the show that it's all done out of the goodness of their hearts - such magnanimous folks - but all they do is rake in the show profits, while all the local contractors and suppliers shoulder the costs. They do get some promotional value, but only after they pay a fee to the producers for the rights. I guess I should give the producers credit for providing the impetus. Somehow, without the glitz of a national program, I don't think anyone would be sufficiently motivated to make it happen so quickly.

I just read my last comment and noted that it sounded kind of negative about the community. Actually, once the project started, the electricity in the air grew as more and more of the community got behind it. That site became the most animated spot in Pocatello for a week strait, and will be remembered into the distant future. It was heart-warming to see.
