HISTORY

A Little History:
Our story begins in Pocatello, Idaho, circa 1972, when the lovely Debby Christensen agreed to a first, though fateful date with admirer, David Croshaw. Long story-short, he bade her follow him, and they went arm-in-arm to the Logan, Utah temple for establishment of an eternal family unit, Generation 1, on May 23 1973.

From their first blissful summer in Salt Lake City, educational pursuits took them to Provo/Orem, Utah, birthplace of Leslie and Rebecca, and to San Francisco/Oakland California, birthplace of Colin and Matt. Then, for establishment of livelihood, expansion of the tribe with Abby and Dana, and for raising/unifying of Generation 2, it was back to the roots in Pocatello for a rewarding sojourn.

In time, driven by a raging, but commonly shared sense of adventure and independence, one-by-one, Generation 2 escaped the homeland to distant regions of the country and the world, each ultimately developing their own tribal expansions by pairing with worthy mates and initiating Generation 3.

Now sensing fulfillment of their purpose in Pocatello, Generation 1 has also left those roots and transplanted to Cascade Idaho, from which base, they anticipate more abundant contact with The Posterity, Generations 2 and 3, in the future. That contact however, awaits fulfillment of a call to LDS missionary service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, wherein they hope to help the state of the world by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

So now, including Generation 0 (Grandma and Grandpa Christensen) home base includes Yuma, Arizona, Pocatello, Idaho, Cascade, Idaho, Vancouver, BC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Spokane, Washington, Boise, Idaho, Los Angeles, California, back to Boise, Idaho, and on and on (Generation 3+) to infinity.

Our Mission Statement:
This is the blog of our eternal family unit. Initiated years ago, it served well as a journal, but even more so, as an archive of our personal interaction. It was a gathering place, a confabulation instrument, a unifying force for four generations of widely dispersed and progressively prolific posterity, and their valued associates. Though it served these purposes well for many years, it eventually took a back seat to new-kids-on-the-block, Facebook, and Instagram, and was sadly forgotten.

We now move to resurrect this blog with an added functional purpose of archiving the missionary experiences of Generation 1, of their movements and activities as they participate with The Gathering of Israel in the land northward. In so doing, we hope that via their own comments and posts, this blog will again serve to gather and unify the posterity and their friends.

As in the past, that the young and vibrant may know the old and tired, that enduring bonds may be fostered and maintained, that experience and encouragement may be openly shared, that posterity may embrace truth, and that hearts may be knit together, we must resist detachment despite our geographic divergence. We shall do so here.

I saw that on the news last week- it is just ingenious and a total awesome use of physics. I love it!

I was wondering... there is talk of Christmas in Miami... the plane tickets around the 15th are really, really cheap...

Any sort of date planning? I would really like to try to get plane tickets and from Dulles, it is like 90 minutes to Ft Lauderdale. So cool!

Anyway. Dates?!

abbynormal said...

As long as I'm not among those who are testing out the distance first...

There is talk of Christmas in Miami? Crystal, flights from DCA to Ft. Lauderdale are wicked cheap. FYI. :)

Hey, Abby~

There IS talk... stemming from Lori's Blog
last week...

I like Dulles better for us because it is way, wayyy closer (Monday it took 90 minutes to get from Reagan to the Manassas exit for gas, and we were on empty the whole time; talk about scary). Plus parking is wicked expensive at Reagan $140 for the time we were there and only $15 a day at Dulles, sooooo... it works a tiny bit better for us.

The flights I am looking at (and need to book if we go so Matt can ask off work, he still has 8 days of vacation left) are $74 each way... and that is an awesome deal~

Miami is probably a no go for us this year. We have some other big travel plans in the works for our 10 year anniversary next year and then Jan. 2011. I am thinking there might be other, yet to be mentioned plans, in the works too. I am going to hide and find out. =)

Another plan like moving to Boise? or Idaho anywhere? Why are you being so secretive!? I'm not sure we'd be able to go this year either. We're getting our house ready to try to sell it and spending money we don't have yet. I wish it could work. Could we plan on 2 Christmases? Maybe?

rebeccaV said...

Yeah, Miami won't work for us this year, either. We are also going to Maui in Oct. for our 10 year anniversary. Maybe next year??

David and Debby said...

OK, OK, I get it, but what about the water slide?

Actually, we can't commit to this winter either, since there may be conflicting events beyond our control. That's all I'm going to say.
Dad

Colin & Lori Croshaw said...

We are actually going to go to Florida to do the Disney World thing next year probably in the winter. And we're doing the Hawaii thing in April for the 10 year anniversary.
And we are moving to Idaho, probably Boise, but not until July 2011. Who's being secretive. When are YOU moving back Boise, that's the real question.

rebeccaV said...

Dad, you can't say something like that and not spill the beans, c'mon, I'm waiting...

Jason and Dana said...

I move back to Boise every night, in my dreams......

abbynormal said...

So, uh, I may be ego-centric in my thinking here, but I think Dad and Colin/Lori were talking about certain potential conflicting events in December involving me. And someone else.

Am I right?

David and Debby said...

Well Abby, I didn't want to be too direct, since there is yet NO RING/NO DATE, but your assumption is, shall we say, getting warm.
Dad

David Chipman said...

Wait... Abby, are you graduating in December? I thought that wasn't until May? You should let me know about these big events in case I wanted to come or make a custom banner or something. Seriously, I should read these comments more often!

Colin & Lori said...

Yeah, you really should! We love you guys!

David and Debby said...

Oh, nice try Chipman, acting all coy like you don't know what's going on. Way to CYA, but it's sad to see a grown man grovel like that. Next thing we know you'll be telling us you can milk a cat. Custom banner, my butt! - roses would be the appropo gift for her December graduation.

abbynormal said...

When did he grovel? I missed the groveling.

David and Debby said...

just play along Abby, so we can keep everyone confused. Are you confused? I know I am, but that's not new.
Dad

Jason and Dana said...

All I could say on that water slide was NO WAY! As I watched it like 3 times. That was a pretty risky move. I mean, what if you come up 5 feet short and your legs go into that wood platform. No thanks, been there done that hurting myself on a big jump. But that is pre-croshaw life.

CYA David? on the family blog? Really? And the use of the word Butt? You are going to be in so much trouble. I assume you mean cover your assets? An accounting term.

I think we will be having Christmas in Austin, and christmas Eve in Boise in Dana's dreams.

David and Debby said...

Jason, yes, assets - I suppose that's a form of the word. But really, they're just letters you know - CYA. I don't really know what they mean.

And FYI, the expression, "my butt" comes from the movie Raising Arizona, which is a pre-Delgadillo Croshaw Classic. So all the sibs understand the vernacular, and it is not crude to those in the know. You're going to have to rent RA and watch it like 15 times to really comprehend what makes the Croshaws tick, and to really become one with us. Am I right, Croshaw kids? How long have you been in this family now Jason? 5, 6 years? I can't believe you haven't done that already. I mean, digging holes is a basic requirement, and you have proven yourself there, but being able to quote RA is on a whole nother level. The clock's ticking, and I'm watching.

Regarding that waterslide video, I considered the possibility that the guy sliding down the hill was actually a dummy (literally,) and the guy who stood up in the water tank was posted there, just waiting for the spash, to stand up. I'm going to have to watch it a few more times and see if they were deluding us. What do you think?
David

David Chipman said...

I'm voting that it's a genuinely real and failed attempt at natural selection. Must be one of the stronger.

rebeccaV said...

It's totally fake, that's my assessment. Regarding Raising Arizona, Ray works with this guy (who is also in our ward) who LOVES RA, it is his favorite show. He always calls everyone "mother scratcher", I thought that was really funny. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the show!!

David and Debby said...

I don't know. I watched the video again, and as he's flying through the air, you can see arms and legs moving against the G forces, i.e. muscle action. You wouldn't see that with a dummy. But yes David, good call - a failed attempt at natural selection. The guy almost became a candidate for the Darwin awards, a chronicle of enterprising demises, honoring those who improve the species by
accidentally removing themselves from it. Check it out at darwinawards.com . Sooner or later he will succeed.

Leslie said...

Why didn't we watch it when we were all home together?!

Some of my favorites:

My name is H.I. McDonnaugh. Call me Hi.

There's right and there's right and never the twain shall meet.

We figured there was too much happiness here for just the two of us, so we figured the next logical step was to have us a critter.

We got us a family here!

...and when there was no meat, we ate fowl and when there was no fowl, we ate crawdad and when there was no crawdad to be found, we ate sand.
Ya ate what?
We ate sand?
Ya ate SAND?
That's right.

Do it my way or watch your butt!

Son, you got a panny on yo' head!

Leslie said...

Oh...and also this one from HI's final soliloquy.

If not Arizona, then a land not too far away. Where all parents are strong and wise and capable. And all children are happy and beloved. I don't know. Maybe it was Utah.

(The whole thing is good. You can find it online, but it was just too long to write here.)

Leslie said...

Then there's dad's favorite:

"I'm crappin' you negative."

Someone stop me...I might go on forever!

Colin & Lori Croshaw said...

The entire movie is one big one liner. But it's the deeper meaning that does it for me. See, Smalls was actually the bad side that HI could become if he didn't blow it to bits with that hand grenade.
These are some of my favorites:
You're young and you got your health, what do you want with a job!?
I loooove to drive.
(think isaac hayes) well, sometimes I get the menstrual cramps real hard.

By the way, the waterslide bit is obviously not real. Seriously. Amazing things can be done with a computer these days.

rebeccaV said...

Ummm, it's "there's what's right and there's what's right and never the twain shall meet". Get it right, Les :)

David and Debby said...

Christian Dior, my butt!

Well, which is it young feller? I mean to say, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop. And if'n I drop, I'm gonna be in motion.

The sun don't rise and set on the corner grocery.

Ed, I'm walkin in here on my knees, a free man proposin'. Howdy Kurt.

Honey, I'm OK, you're OK, and that there is what it is.

Ed singing, "For I did murder that poor little girl..."

That Dot, she can be a real heckcat - T-I-G...ER.

What the doctor was sayin' was that Edwina's insides were a rocky place on which my seed could find no purchase.

This whole thing, you see, is about who knows who. And then over here, you have favoritism.

OK then.

Where's Matt's input. He's the movie line guy.
Dad
