HISTORY

A Little History:
Our story begins in Pocatello, Idaho, circa 1972, when the lovely Debby Christensen agreed to a first, though fateful date with admirer, David Croshaw. Long story-short, he bade her follow him, and they went arm-in-arm to the Logan, Utah temple for establishment of an eternal family unit, Generation 1, on May 23 1973.

From their first blissful summer in Salt Lake City, educational pursuits took them to Provo/Orem, Utah, birthplace of Leslie and Rebecca, and to San Francisco/Oakland California, birthplace of Colin and Matt. Then, for establishment of livelihood, expansion of the tribe with Abby and Dana, and for raising/unifying of Generation 2, it was back to the roots in Pocatello for a rewarding sojourn.

In time, driven by a raging, but commonly shared sense of adventure and independence, one-by-one, Generation 2 escaped the homeland to distant regions of the country and the world, each ultimately developing their own tribal expansions by pairing with worthy mates and initiating Generation 3.

Now sensing fulfillment of their purpose in Pocatello, Generation 1 has also left those roots and transplanted to Cascade Idaho, from which base, they anticipate more abundant contact with The Posterity, Generations 2 and 3, in the future. That contact however, awaits fulfillment of a call to LDS missionary service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, wherein they hope to help the state of the world by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

So now, including Generation 0 (Grandma and Grandpa Christensen) home base includes Yuma, Arizona, Pocatello, Idaho, Cascade, Idaho, Vancouver, BC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Spokane, Washington, Boise, Idaho, Los Angeles, California, back to Boise, Idaho, and on and on (Generation 3+) to infinity.

Our Mission Statement:
This is the blog of our eternal family unit. Initiated years ago, it served well as a journal, but even more so, as an archive of our personal interaction. It was a gathering place, a confabulation instrument, a unifying force for four generations of widely dispersed and progressively prolific posterity, and their valued associates. Though it served these purposes well for many years, it eventually took a back seat to new-kids-on-the-block, Facebook, and Instagram, and was sadly forgotten.

We now move to resurrect this blog with an added functional purpose of archiving the missionary experiences of Generation 1, of their movements and activities as they participate with The Gathering of Israel in the land northward. In so doing, we hope that via their own comments and posts, this blog will again serve to gather and unify the posterity and their friends.

As in the past, that the young and vibrant may know the old and tired, that enduring bonds may be fostered and maintained, that experience and encouragement may be openly shared, that posterity may embrace truth, and that hearts may be knit together, we must resist detachment despite our geographic divergence. We shall do so here.

Can Elliot do this yet?

How about a favorite Michael Jackson song poll. Mine is Billy Jean, followed pretty closely by Dirty Diana, Rock with You and, of course, Thriller.

150 qt Igloo cooler for $79.99

The other night at Costco we saw this huge white cooler on sale. And it made me think of houseboats. And that got the hamsters spinning on their treadmills in my little head. Wouldn’t it be awesome of we have a family trip to Lake Powell?

So, I propose a we go on a lampoon family vacation Croshaw style to the red canyons of Lake Powell next June 7th through the 11th 2010.

What do you all think? Any one up for it? Bring all Ideas. Maybe a couple years down the road? Maybe a different time of year? Lets brainstorm this one out.

I know this is much more on the west coast than the East Coast. So if we wanted to split the difference and meet in Omaha Nebraska for the College World Series, I guess that would work too. But I vote for the 21 hour drive up I-10 to some fun in the Sun. And I challange Alex and Leslie to drive the 40 hours from Miami, you can even stop in San Antonio on your way.

Where ever it may be, the important part is that we are together, and that we get to watch David do a swan dive from a cliff into crystal clear water.

Two items from Mom

Does anyone in the family have a bone protruding below their ankle, like I used to have? I have had this my whole life, and it has bothered me in certain shoes for a long time. I finally realized that I have a brilliantly skilled husband who could fix it, so yesterday he removed that bone. Pretty exciting. Just wondering if any of you have one of these, too. Dad says it would most likely be Abby, Becky, or maybe Matt, since they have feet kind of like mine. End of item one.
Yesterday I was reading Elder Russell M. Nelson's talk in conference, and found this little gem.
The talk was entitled, "Lessons from the Lord's Prayers". Suitable for the entire family:
"In a later prayer, Jesus included a plea for unity, "Father," He said, "I pray unto thee for them...that they may believe in me, that I may be in them as thou, Father, art in me, that we may be one."3 Nephi 19:23 We too can pray for unity. We can pray to be of one heart and one mind with the Lord's anointed and with our loved ones. We can pray for mutual understanding and respect between ourselves and our neighbors. If we really care for others, we should pray for them. "Pray one for another..." taught James, for "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16
Unity is one of our greatest family goals. As we are in the midst of praying and fasting for each other, I hope that we will also pray for 'one heart and one mind... and for mutual understanding and respect.'
I love you all. Have a wonderful weekend. xoxoxo mom

The American dream realised

OK maybe yes or maybe not you are fans of soccer but today USA won the semifinal vs. Spain
and here is my post.

USA caused another sensation at the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009, beating European champions Spain 2-0 to book a place in their first-ever world final.
the confederations cup is a preview of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa and this time USA mounted a successful defense of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2007 (CONCACAF = central america and north america confederation, Yes USA is representing to Mexico) thanks to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mexico in the final. The USA's second continental crown in succession was their fourth overall, bringing them level with ARCH-RIVAL Mexico. The triumph also means the USA sealed a berth at the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009. OUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

OK, I have to say GO USA since I'm USA resident, hahahahah we will see next August 12 USA vs. Mexico to the winner one ticket to the WORLD CUP 1010.

Now USA going to play the FINAL vs. BRAZIL next Sunday.

Go Mexico.... ups sorry GO USA...

Alex.

Temple Blessings

OK, so some of you may not think this is a temple blessing, but you will never convince me otherwise. Friday I went to the temple with my friend Terry M. (since this is an open blog, I am protecting her identity). I got this really unusual woman's name, one I have never gotten before. just her regular given name, not anything i cannot reveal to you. OK, i am vascillating between capitals and noncapitals. Anyway, Dad and I are on the airplane, almost to Portland, and i realize that i have no idea what company i rented the car with. i have visions of us going from one car company to another for hours. then, the name of this lady pops into my head, a name of a well known car rental company. hmm, i am thinking. could it be? we get off the plane, and i am a little anxious to get the car thing settled. when we walk into the car rental complex. i asked dad to go to the first place we saw, thrifty, and see if we have a reservation there. there was no personnel there. i walk in to the other area and walked past all others, directly to the car rental agency that popped into my head. i explain that i don't have any idea which agency i rented the car with, but could she check for a reservation in my name or David's name. guess what! bingo! i don't want to mix gambling terms with my religious experience, but it seems to fit. i rented the car from AVIS!!! Temple name on Friday--Avis Eddy, from Liverpool, England. A little blessing from afar(in a galaxy far, far away--the spirit world) from Avis to help me on my way after I helped her.

A Car Seat for "Real Women"

Look at my aunt Sally sitting on her dad's lap and THEN look at the car seat she got to sit in when the car was moving. She is about 40, I would guess. I remember sitting on the armrest in the middle of the bench seating in our car from about 2-5. Thank the good Lord, there were never any accidents. I am pretty nazi about car seats. It just makes me sick even changing Asher's. I know it is going to turn into a long, drawn-out ordeal because I must make sure it is tight, immovable and as safe as possible. When my mom was here, it was changed 3 times to accomadate my mom in the car with us... We need a larger car, that is for sure. We just dont fit in my car. When all of us were in there, I never got the priveledge of having my very own seat belt. But Asher was safe, Valerie was safe and those were my primary concerns. Of course, I was wedged in so tight between Asher's carseat and Matt I was not going anywhere in case of an accident, but still...

So, ironically, I am researching car seats based on the research article that just came out... and it is one of those issues that people have all sorts of opinions about that I just don't forsee...

Anyway... this is from a friend
I definitely appreciate a well-informed choice, I am just not sure where I will put Asher's legs. They are already at the back of the seat when he is rear-facing.

Just read this in the paper today:

There was also this little blog interaction:

" Rulon - I'm just curious how long you've been waiting to make that joke. Or, I think a better questions is who told you that joke in 1992? "

I am So SO glad none of you made the trip home to go to this concert.

Redistribution of Wealth

Here are a few inspired thoughts from earlier times. Do you see any of this being fulfilled today?

Ezra Taft Benson on Socialism: - 1977
Why is socialism incompatible with man's liberty? Socialism cannot work except through an all-powerful state. The state has to be supreme in everything. When individuals begin to exert their God-given rights, the state has to suppress that freedom. So belief in God must be suppressed, and with that gone, freedom of conscience and religion must also go.

Economist Milton Freedman on government spending: - 1977
He indicated that government spending in the United States at all levels that year, amounted to over 40% of the total national income. If we continue to follow the trend in which we are heading today (1977,) two things will inevitably result: first, a loss of our personal freedom, and second, financial bankruptcy.

U.S. President James Madison on the welfare state:
If Congress can employ money indefinitely to [promote the general welfare according to its whims,] they may take the care of religion unto their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every state, county, and parish and pay them out of their public treasure; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner, schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor.... Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited government established by the people of America.

Ezra Taft Benson on Charity:
Americans have always been committed to taking care of the poor, aged, and unemployed. We have done this on the basis of Judaio-Christian beliefs and humanitarian principles. It has been fundamental to our way of life that charity must be voluntary if it is to be charity. Compulsory benevolence is not charity.

U.S. President Grover Cleveland
...Though the people support the government, the government should not support the people.

Political Philosopher Sir Edmund Burke on the threat of economic equality:
[If we attempt economic equality,] a perfect equality will indeed be produced - that is to say, equal wretchedness, equal beggary, and on the part of the petitioners, a woeful, helpless, and desperate disappointment. Such is the event of all compulsory equalizations. They pull down what is above; they never raise what is below; and they depress high and low together beneath the level of what was originally the lowest.

New Addition

We have a little bit of an announcement. We have a new addition to the Colin and Lori Croshaw family.......

Her name is Bailey and we just got her today. Lori was over at a friends house and she heard that a friend of a friend of a friend had a pug they needed to give away. They got her to keep their other dog company but it didn't work out like they thought it would. We have been talking about getting a pug for a long time and we told the kids we couldn't get a dog until we had a fence. Well, since the fence has been done they have been reminding us of that just about every day. Lori heard about this and got the lady's email and told her we wanted her. We were the first to respond, so we got her. We didn't tell Jack or Mia wer were getting her until after we got there and were playing with her. I wish we had video of it. It's the happiest day of their lives I think.
She's about 1 year old and is already trained pretty well, which is a huge selling point (I guess it isn't a selling point if you don't pay is it?). Anyway, it should be fun.
